Harry S. Adams approached Wright in 1911 for plans for an elaborate house. When Wright produced the plans Adams called them exorbitant and Wright downsized the plans twice, Adams rejected them. Adams went to Purcell and Elmslie who came up with a simpler drawing. This was shown to Wright who became livid, and prepared a satisfactory final plan of a mature Prairie style with sweeping horizontal lines. The Adams house was the last Frank Lloyd Wright house built in Oak Park.
